Call for Papers

1-5 September 2025, Cardiff, Wales, UK

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for Metal 2025. The conference will be held at Cardiff University in the heart of the Welsh capital city with hybrid access for online delegates. Metal 2025 will continue the tradition of published preprints which will be available digitally for delegates and as a print on demand digital volume from www.lulu.com following the meeting.

Papers: The 30th anniversary of the first Metal meeting offers an opportunity to reflect on progress and new challenges in our discipline, continuing to embrace the interdisciplinary research and reporting that has advanced our practices. We would be pleased to receive papers on the following aspects of metals conservation:

  • Development of new analytical techniques.
  • Novel applications for established materials and methods.
  • Evidence-based assessment of treatment effectiveness.
  • Critical appraisal of more sustainable treatments and practices.
  • Better understanding of the impact of changing environments on heritage metals.
  • Case studies of elaborate and innovative conservation treatments.
  • Collaborations with archaeometallurgy, art history, engineering and industry, and source communities.

 Young Conservation Professionals: Abstracts from students and recent graduates (maximum 3 years from graduation) are invited. These will be published as short papers.

Submission: Please submit abstracts of max. 500 words. The work must be original and not previously published. Include a paper title and the name, professional title, affiliation and email address of all authors. Indicate the corresponding author and include their biography (max. 300 words). All papers will be subject to copyright transfer agreements.

To submit a Young Conservation Professionals paper, include the letters YCP before the abstract title. For example, "YCP Conservation of painted cast iron sculptures."

 

The Paper-flow online submissions portal https://metal2025.paper-flow.com/ will be live and ready to accept abstracts from 17th April 2024.
